Bio

Emily Prinsloo is a behavioral scientist and Assistant Professor of Marketing at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business. Applying insights from psychology and economics, Emily seeks to understand how consumers navigate their environment and makesometimes suboptimalconsumption decisions.

Her research on “Opportunity Neglect” encourages people to take their chances in life – especially those that are relatively costless. Think about it: in many cases, there is little to lose – as when applying to a dream job, messaging a role model, or launching a new business in college. In her research, Emily employs a variety of methods including online and laboratory experiments, field studies, practitioner surveys, and qualitative interviews.

Recently, Emily developed a new course titled “New Product Development and Management.” She teaches this course across 4 sections in the undergraduate, full-time MBA, evening professional MBA, and weekend MBA programs at Rice. 

Emily completed her Ph.D. at Harvard Business School. Additionally, she attainted her B.Sc. in International Business Administration with a minor in Psychology from Rotterdam School of Management, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She also received an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, graduating with distinction. Prior to becoming a professor, Emily worked in product management and consulting at IBM, Simon-Kucher and Partners, and BMW.
